In Honduras public schools uniforms are required and many families simply cannot afford the cost of a uniform and/or school supplies. This year two young women from the states, Haylie Kirkendall & Rosalea Pedrolini, raised the funds for 80 uniforms to be distributed by The Honduras Project to children in need. Haylie asked Mi Esperanza if our sewing maquila would make the uniforms and we were happy to help. The maquila made 40 skirts 40 pants and 80 tops in a variety of sizes which were distributed to children in the community of Mololoa, a very poor village of Tegucigalpa.
