“After participating in Mi Esperanza’s Beauty Class, I started working at a Beauty Salon called “Salon de Belleza Maine”, at Barrio La Ronda (Downtown). My schedule is from Monday thru Saturday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm. I have worked there for three years now, and appreciate my job and believe Mi Esperanza opened the door for this job opportunity.
This has not only helped me economically, but emotionally. It has built my self-esteem, by discovering I am capable of being productive and independent.
I am grateful to have an excellent boss that has taught me new things, and has been very supportive and trusts me.”
Emelina Alvarez's Updates
- February 2012 - Emelina is still working for Maine Salon in Tegucigalpa, 6 years! During our recent visit Emelina shared with us that on her days off she works a small "chair" at her home. She saved through her job at Maine to purchase a chair and basic supplies to be able to provide services from her home. This is something she intends to do with her free time, because she loves her job with Maine. Her son Oscar is doing well is now 4 years old and will start Kindergarten next year. Emelina is very happy and remains very grateful to Mi Esperanza for giving her the "hand up" to a better life.
- February 2010 - Since graduating 4 years ago Emelina has been working at the same job. She works for a very well known salon in Tegucigalpa, The Maine Salon. Emelina loves her work and has grown as a cosmetologist. She now offers the full range of services the salon offers. Since graduation she has had her first child Oscar Gabriel who is now 2 1/2. She continues to be thankful for the stability her career offers her and her family. She plans to continue with her career and clients at the Maine Salon. She says her life is stable and free of stress knowing she can work and provide for her family.
