Wendy at work
Wendy graduated from the Mi Esperanza Cosmetology school in 2018. After graduation, Wendy worked full-time at Tameli's Place, a salon in Tegucigalpa. Right away, she began saving and, little by little, purchasing equipment and supplies to one day open a salon of her own. In March of 2020, when the global pandemic shut down the world, Wendy lost her job. But because she was already preparing and saving, Wendy could continue to work. With so few people leaving home, Wendy began a mobile salon providing in-home services and built a thriving clientele.
When Mi Esperanza fully reopened in January of 2022, Wendy enrolled in our computer technology program to gain another skill that could assist her as she builds her business.
On graduation day, we visited with Wendy, and she shared how her education at Mi Esperanza helped her not just survive but thrive during COVID. We were so impressed with Wendy's persistence and work ethic that we discussed how a micro-loan could help her advance her career goals. Wendy saw this as a blessing and an opportunity to strengthen her business and achieve her career goals. Wendy participated in the Mi Esperanza Microloan program to expand her business and paid her loan back on time.
Wendy continues to learn and gain new skills through continuing education courses.
